Here's The Story
A person's position and weight distribution on their bicycle will have a large effect on how they perform. If one is not comfortable or is experiencing pain during a ride, speed and power will be compromised. The relationship between the saddle and pedal is the second most important factor, the key adjustments are height, fore/aft, and tilt. The exact position is quite different for each individual, within certain parameters. It's hard to get it right using someone else's formula or rule of thumb.
Length of the top tube, length of the stem, drop to the handlebar, and width of the handlebar all have a bearing on your overall speed, comfort, power, and efficiency. The common bike shop approach of having the rider stand over the bike to check frame size has little to do with power, efficiency, or comfort on a new bike.

Shoe to pedal interface;
The most important relationship on your bike is the interface between the foot and the pedal! Power is transferred from the foot into the pedal through the sole of the shoe. For maximum performance the sole should be very stiff, this is why racing shoes are not very good for walking. The stiffer the sole, the more efficient and comfortable it will be when pedaling hard. Carbon fiber soles work very well, some composite soles available also work nicely. However, many cycling shoes on the market are too flexible for maximum performance.
There are four adjustments that need to be considered when setting up a new shoe and pedal system. These include Medial-Lateral (side to side), fore and aft, rotation, and cant. When all of these parameters are correct, a person is able to maximize power and efficiency while maintaining a natural pedal rotation without pain or damage to their knees.
Four point cleat alignments are done in my studio, by appointment only, for $ 40

TheDynamic Fitting;
If a cyclists needs to take his/her fitting to the next level, dynamic fittings are the next step. A dynamic fitting is done by taking video footage of the cyclist who is riding on a Computrainer. We shoot different angles on flat ground and while climbing, then the videos are analyzed and adjustments are made. Once the rider has had time to acclimate to the new position, new videos are taken and re-evaluation of position will take place to decide if specific problems have been solved. This process starts with a computerized fit and then progresses to riding the computrainer and taking digital video. The riding and filming will be repeated two times. You get to keep the DVDs for future reference.
This service will be introduced soon, please sign up for our E-newsletter for updates.

Computrainer:
As part of a dynamic fitting,  the Computrainer is used to measure power vs. heart rate to help solve specific bike fit problems. I also use the Spin Scan feature to isolate problems related to discrepancies between the left and right leg.

Diagnostics:
Sometimes a cyclist will have a specific problem related to riding. For example; low back pain on long rides or knee pain after a long climb! I can solve many of these problems by evaluating your equipment, including shoes and pedals and your position on the bike. Sometimes this involves a full blown fitting but many times it just requires a small tweek. Make an appointment, if I solve your problem I will bill you at $45 per hour. If I fail to solve your specific problem, I will not bill you! So you have nothing to loose by making the appointment, except maybe a nagging problem!
